Operators to benefit from bumper year of tourism in 2016

aeroplaneThe Office for National Statistics (ONS) has reported that 2.25m people visited the UK in February, spending £1.08bn – a rise of 8% on the previous year’s figures.

Minister for Tourism, David Evennett, said:  “This record-breaking start to the year shows that our fantastic array of attractions remain hugely popular with visitors from all over the world.

“There is so much to see and do across the whole of the UK and we are absolutely committed to encouraging tourists to see all the hidden gems we have to offer.”

With events including The Queen’s 90th birthday, a visit from US President Obama, and the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death falling this month, Britain could be on track for another boost.

To make the most of the influx of tourists to the country, caterers should ensure they are offering a variety of options to suit visitors from across the globe. Offering a true taste of Britain with dishes such as sticky toffee pudding, Victoria sponge, and apple & rhubarb crumble will give more adventurous visitors the culinary journey they have travelled for. More universally recognisable options such as ice cream, chocolate cake, and sorbet cater to those looking for something a little more familiar.
