Italian and British cuisine rising in popularity

Italian cuisine was the most booked restaurant type last year, seemingly helped along by Jamie Oliver’s restaurants, which passed the £100m turnover point in 2014.

Bookings at Jamie’s Italian restaurants in Newcastle and Birmingham accounted for 16% of all bookings at the top ten restaurants throughout the year.

Whilst the British continue to enjoy a wide range of world foods, with French, European, American, and Mexican menus remaining popular, it’s our own cuisine which made for the second most booked restaurant type.

This continuing trend shows that as tastes for international food vary from one year to the next, British consumers are continuing to enjoy their own heritage dishes.

The rise in popularity of UK cuisine has been attributed in part to the success of programmes such as The Great British Bake Off, as well as the ever-evolving UK restaurant scene.

For those wanting to capitalise on current trends, we supply enticingly Italian dishes such as the focaccia with sun dried tomatoes and olives, and distinctively British platters including our sophisticated afternoon teas.
