An Easy Trifle Recipe for Beginners

Trifle: a quintessential English dessert that has stood the test of time, lasting over 400 years. Not only is it a versatile dessert, but it is pretty easy to make. If you fancy having a go at making your own trifle try out our easy recipe below:


  • 1 readymade sponge cake
  • 3 bananas, sliced
  • 135g strawberry tablet jelly, broken into cubes
  • 415g sliced peaches
  • 225ml double cream, whipped
  • 145g instant vanilla dessert mix


Break the sponge cake into bite size pieces and place into a glass dish
Dissolve the jelly cubes in 250ml of hot water and pour over the cake pieces
Drain the peaches and pour the juice over the jelly
Arrange the bananas on top, followed by the peaches
Prepare the instant dessert mix spread evenly over the fruit
Top with whipped cream, ensuring layers are kept separate
Top with chocolate sprinkles if preferred
Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving
