As the summer draws to a close, fruit-based desserts traditionally become less popular, with richer, more comforting desserts taking their place. Everybody likes to indulge throughout the autumn and winter months, and at Destiny Foods, we are no exception to this rule!
But what if you could combine the two? Well now you can with this fabulous fruit flan!
Base: 125ml butter, 80ml sugar, 250ml flour
Filling: 3 pears, 2 apples, 125g cream cheese, 125ml sugar, 2 eggs, 180ml milk, 2ml vanilla extract, 2ml cinnamon, 60ml slivered almonds
How to make:
To make the base, simply mix the butter and sugar together until light. Slowly beat in the flour and place across the bottom and sides of a 10 inch pie dish.
Once the base is complete, peel and slice your fruit and place it in the crust, pulling it slightly higher in the centre. In a separate bowl, stir the cream cheese until smooth and beat in the sugar. Add your eggs in one at a time, beating the mixture whilst doing so. Finally, add the milk and vanilla extract and pour the final mixture over the sliced fruit. To garnish, sprinkle the cinnamon and almonds over the top.
Bake in a preheated oven for 10 minutes on 220 °C, and then reduce the heat to 180°C for the final 40 minutes of baking. Leave to cool, and then serve your flantastic dessert with a side of your choice!
